Fort Worth United Development League
As a means to contribute back to our local communities, Fort Worth United Soccer Club sponsors and hosts a "development league" for our area inner city players. The Fort Worth United Development League provides organized, ordered competitive soccer games for inner city teams that may not otherwise be afforded the opportunity to play in a structured soccer league. The Fort Worth United Soccer Club Development League is organized and directed by FWU coach, Chico Sanchez and Gabriel Hernandez. All league games are played at Fort Worth United's Resource Connection practice facility located in south Fort Worth.
The Development League games are played on Saturday and Sunday afternoons at Fort Worth United's Resource Connection practice facility (see picture left) and follow a "pseudo" tournament/league game format. Regular season games are played throughout the season with playoffs between the top ranked teams occurring upon conclusion of the season. Teams are split into brackets. Brackets for ages U10 (U8 through U10 players), U12, and U14 are available and a Fall and Spring season are offered each year. Teams are bracketed by skill level and age, leagues games scheduled, and end of season "playoffs" provided to all participating teams.
Fort Worth United Soccer Club coaches, directors, and club members provide assistance with not only the training and teaching aspect of the program, but also provide the logistical support needed to organize and execute the league event. Fort Worth United Soccer Club coach Chico Sanchez acts as the League Director (pictured right with Club President, Brian Haddock, during the Spring 2007 trophy presentation) providing the logistical support for the program. Fort Worth United members (parents and players) who are licensed referees also contribute by providing the officiating services required. How do I Join?
Participation in the league is available to all interested teams but on a limited and selective basis. Fort Worth United Academy teams may also be invited to play in the league if space permits. Costs and facilities are subsidized by Fort Worth United Soccer Club allowing us to offer the league to participants at a minimal cost (typically one fourth the cost of a typical league). The inaugural year of the Fort Worth United Soccer Club Development League proved to be a great success and growth in the number of teams is expected to continue. If you or your team are interested in participating in the Fort Worth United Soccer Club Development League, please contact the League Commissioners, Chico Sanchez and Gabriel Hernandez, for additional details, requirements, and availability.
