FWU Moves Forward on Downtown Field Construction Project
Fort Worth United announced today that the plans for the construction of a new soccer facility in
downtown Fort Worth have moved into the planning stages. A
two-year old project, FWU has walked the site with their partners and
held preliminary discussions with the Trinity River Authority. The
proposal moved through our partners' Financial Department and Facilities
Department who gave word last week that they are ready to move forward
on the deal. The construction effort would provide FWU and its
leagues several practice and game fields located on the banks of the
Trinity River in downtown Fort Worth (giving FWU two separate practice

FWU 96 Boys Advance to Classic League Division 2
Congratulations to
the 96 Boys Blue team on their advancement into
Classic League Division 2. After watching the boys fight their way
through the API ranks, we knew it was only a matter of time before they
climbed out of D3 and into the 2nd division. On Tuesday, the
progression was confirmed and made official. Our hats are off to

well deserved.

FWU Players Sign National Letter of Intent
The National Letter of Intent or NLI is used to indicate a student athlete's commitment to a university (and stop further recruitment of that player). Each year Fort Worth United directors, coaches, and managers work to ensure our graduating players are afforded the opportunity to continue their soccer playing careers at the collegiate level. Last year, 100% of FWU's graduating girls received college scholarships. This year, several girls have already signed their NLIs.
Congratulations to Micayla Brown (92 Girls Blue, Midwestern State University), Alissa Reed (92 Girls Gold, Oklahoma City University), and Jessica Reid (92 Girls Gold, Quachita Baptist University) on their accomplishment and heartfelt thanks to the FWU directors, coaches, and managers who worked so hard to secure the opportunities for these fine ladies.

Fort Worth United wins Bronze and Gold in Junior Olympics
Fort Worth United Soccer Club sent two teams, boys and girls, to the Junior Olympics event in Reggio Emilla, Italy late last month. The Junior Olympics are held every four years and are sanctioned by the International Youth Sports Olympics committee. For many years, Fort Worth United Soccer Club has been the exclusive provider of players and coaches for the event. The event this year hosted some 5,000 young athletes from 23 countries around the world. FWU sent two teams, boys and girls, coached by Kenny Alexis, Jamie Southern and Dave Phillips. Both teams faired very well in the competition.
Boys from Chico Sanchez's 92 Gold team made the core of the United States boys team. The boys team, coached by Dave Phillips, competed in five matches and returned home with the Bronze medal.
The girls beat teams from Germany, Czechoslovakia, and Italy to earn a berth in the finals where they beat Italy 4-1. Three players from Kenny
Alexis' 92 Gold team and six players from Tony Barriteau's 92 Blue team returned home with the gold medal.
Congratulations to both teams and all coaches involved and a big thanks for representing us in the event.
FWU College Bound Workshops Big Hit with Club
Members
FWU completed its final College Bound workshop
for the year last week and member feedback indicates the inaugural year
of this new program has been a resounding success. College Bound
workshops are held throughout the year in a classroom at FWU's Resource
Connection practice facility. Students learn the ins and outs of
the college recruitment process and are provided the tools they will
need to succeed in their college bound endeavor. FWU will expand
the program next year to include more 'focused" sessions and hands-on
activities. Big thanks to all the FWU coaches and directors who
work so hard to ensure this program is a success.

95 Boys Red Semi-Finalists in Flamefest
The 95 Boys Red team, coached by Moses Zialu, competed in the Flamefest this past weekend. Playing in a combined age group, the 95 Boys made a big statement finishing ahead of their Classic League counterparts and finishing with the highest points of any other 95 team in the tournament (which included two Classic League D1 teams
and a few lower division Classic League teams). They toppled their first older opponent, Fortis FC (94 Classic League D2), 3-1 to take the lead in their bracket. Their next opponent, Atletico (Classic League D3), etched out a 1-0 win to knock the 95 boys into 2nd. The 95 Boys then faced Liverpool (Plano D1) in their last preliminary game and easily won 2-0 clinching a spot in the semi-finals. In the semis, the 95 Boys Red team faced Longview Elite (94 Classic League D2). Taking the semi-final game to the wire, the 95 Boys finally relinquished a goal to their older competitor in the last 10 minutes. They were later pleased to find that their older semi-finalists opponent would later cruise to an easy 5-1 win over Dallas Texans Red West (Classic League D1).
Nice showing boys!

FWU Makes Noise in South Texas with Big Wins in
Lions Memorial Cup
FWU sent four teams to the Lions Memorial Cup in
San Antonio this past weekend. Fighting through stifling heat,
playing one more scheduled game than their opponents, and competing in
the Gold bracket, the 95 Boys Red team blew into the championship game

Lions were awarded a PK with 10 minutes left in the game to end the game
1-2. In a similar fashion, the 95 Girls Blue team fought to the
semi finals where they narrowly lost to Dallas Texans 0-1. The 99
Boys also chose to compete in the Gold bracket and faced a healthy round
of competition in their first out of state event. The 99 Boys
smashed the Austin Dragons 4-2 in the semis and lost no steam against
San Antonio United in the championship game where they defeated their
worthy opponents 3-2 to bring the Championship trophy back to Fort
Wroth. Congratulations to all teams on your very successful
outing!
